It’s the 1st day today and we’re sharing a sweet and simple DIY Hanging Wooden Star Display.
To be honest, this was supposed to be something completely different, but it morphed into this along the way. This year, we are going for handmade and rustic for our holiday decor – so the simplicity of this project fit right in. This will make you five stars.
You will need:
- Five 48″ dowels (use the ones that are about 1″ around)
- measuring tape and pencil
- small hand saw
- nail gun or twine
- ribbon or coloured yarn for hanging
My first star was, of course, the experimental one. I learned a lot from that process and perfected it for the remaining four Here’s a pictorial.
Basically, start with the top point and either nail it together or wrap it tightly with twine. I started with twine and actually found it got too bulky, so that’s why I went with nails that sink right into the wood and are barely noticeable.
Then play the ‘over-under’ game for the next two dowels. If it’s ‘over’ on the top, put it under at its next intersection. But when you get to your final dowel in the star – do ‘over over’ and it should sit better when hung on the wall.
Then just use different lengths of ribbon or yarn and hang them up! You could even string twinkle lights through them! These would look cute hung in a front window, entry way or make smaller ones for your guest bathroom.
All in, this project will cost you about $5.
Don’t forget to check back for the rest of the 12 Posts of Christmas! Here’s the schedule
PS. We are sharing this post with any and all of these great parties!
