Another weekend is upon us! That means I’m rounding up the stuff out there on the web that is inspiring me. Lately, Dan and I have been on the lookout for projects we can easily do to enhance our outdoor space. In fact we started a little bit of demo last weekend! We’ll be showing you our deck and plans soon 🙂
We are looking for that perfect blend of form and function. So without further ado, some of the inspiration we have found! For your perusal;

(Pretty please, you can pin the above image to come back to this post, but if you want to pin specific project we’re highlighting, pin from the original source, k? We like to make sure bloggers get credit properly! Muuuuah!)
Basically my dream space. This year, I asked Dan to help me install a pole at the edge of our deck for this very reason. He was like “Just a pole?” Men! haha Anyway, City Farmhouse explains and teaches beautifully how ‘plain old deck poles’ can be the cornerstones to a gorgeous outdoor oasis. Well done.
I love the look of outdoor curtains. They soften a space so nicely and warm it up at the same time. Corey from over at Hey there, Home has a tutorial that will keep you on budget and in outdoor drapes for summers to come.
Who doesn’t need more storage? I have plans for a box like this in our ‘under deck’ area. This one (complete with a full tutorial and cut list) is from Sand and Sisal.
On our list for ‘when we start tackling curb appeal for real’, something like this to hide our garbage, recycling and compost bins would be ideal! I love the way it’s open and easy to access, but hold the potential to hide all the yuckers from guests coming to the house and from the street. Courtesy of I should be mopping the floor.
Now that we’ve taken out the trash 😉 let’s talk about how much I love a good outdoor cooler! And this DIY one from Fox Hollow Cottage takes the cake IMHO. Small and compact, totally useful and complete with a full and comprehensive tutorial to build it to your own taste and style. (Beer and other cold beverages sold separately!)
For anyone with a backyard near a lake, pool or ocean, this is a fabulous idea. Simple to put together and a great use of vertical space. Plus, it gets all those soggy beach towels off the deck railing. Tutorial courtesy of Just Judy Blog.
Confession. I totally have a girl blog crush on Aniko from Place of My Taste. I pretty much love everything she does (you should see her watercolours!) So of course, I’m going to include this pretty much perfect pallet lounge set she did! I can’t get over how much I love the colour!
You know when you see something in a swanky catalogue and you’re all like, “I could TOTALLY build that for like $5?” – that’s exactly what DIY Candy did with this amazingly modern and chic looking outdoor bench. Okay, she built it for $35, but that’s miles better than the $1400 retail in the catalogue!
So much YES with this totally useful and yet incredibly cute hose-hiding storage box. I’m going to see if Dan will build us one of these! Full and comprehensive tutorial courtesy of That’s My Letter.
I remember the first time I saw this post about an outdoor mosaic tile table by Centsational Girl. It was years ago, but I thought it was such a clever use of durable texture and colour in an outdoor setting.
What?! These are the cutest! You all know I love my twinkly lights AND I love giant twig balls…. ummm… Moving on 😛 Anyway – what a great way to incorporate soft lighting into an outdoor space. Courtesy of All Things Heart and Home.
Every Lounge Zone needs cheap and cheerful pillows right? Besides the big lounger ones, it’s great to have some ‘not-so precious’ toss pillows to have on the lounger, to prop along the deck or to throw out onto the grass with a blanket. I love these Dollar Store bandana pillows from The Heathered Nest!
In the category of ‘this is just too cool to not share’ – how about challenging yourself to build a convertible picnic table. I know, right?! Her Tool Belt shows you how.
I try not to plant things because I tend to kill green stuff. But I really like the concept behind this DIY planter privacy wall from AKA Design, don’t you?
Alright, maybe if I had this DIY potting bench complete with wall mount for the hose and a real sink with faucet and running water, I might be able to make green things grow 🙂 Setting for Four has me inspired!
Thanks for reading everyone! Hope you have a great weekend 🙂 <3
Some more weekend inspiration for you!
