How to Make Sweet Personalized Art with Sketch Pens

Yeah! It’s another Silhouette day on the lil’ blog. Today I’m going to show you how to make Sweet Personalized Art with Sketch Pens!

I’m also going to explain how easy it is to use multiple colours at once!Make Sweet Personalized Art with Silhouette Sketch Pens

My confidence and courage has been growing each time I use my machine. Remember last month when I made that cute little paper flower and wood shim wreath? Well, I’m trying something totally new this time around – AND this is a hop, so there are bunch of other Silhouette projects to try  linked at the bottom of this post too!

I got a set of Silhouette Sketch Pens for Christmas and I’ve been excited to use them. I’m a big fan of cute and simple, personalized art. So this is what you need:

First things first, you need a design. I ended up buying this cute little design from the Silhouette Design Studio of two cartoon cats. I love it! It instantly reminded me of our two cats Zuzu and Louie.Customize your Silhouette Design

Once you have a design, import it into your edit software and make sure you size your page to 8.5×11. I just centred my cats right in the middle. To personalize it further, I selected a fun font and wrote “Zuzu & Louie” beneath them. I loaded up my cardstock onto my cutting mat and fed it into my Cameo.

I loaded my Cameo with my black sketch pen. It fits in just like the blade. Super simple. Then I ‘ungrouped’ my whole design. This lets you treat each element of your design as a single item and makes editing easier. Under cut settings, I simply selected ‘No Cut’ on the parts I didn’t want to draw black. (The bow, the second kitty’s paws, the words, the little dots on the first kitty’s head). Then I selected Sketch Pen from the drop down and hit Send to Silhouette.Area selected for first sketch

Now, once this is done, if you want to do another colour – DO NOT REMOVE OR EJECT YOUR PAPER! Just replace your Sketch Pen with your next colour. In my case, it was pink.Using Silhouette Sketch Pens

Then go back to your design and select the parts you want to have pink and then CUT. Let the paper go through the machine again. Sketch Pens with multiple colorsI did this one more time for the elements that I wanted silver (the words and the kitty’s paws).Selected Areas for No Cut with a Sketch Pen

And there you go! This seriously took me 10 minutes to do and I think it’s just the sweetest thing.Personalized Cat Art with Sketch Pens

I’m trying to decide what to do for next month. There are so many options. My little niece is turning seven in a few weeks – so perhaps I will make a cake topper or some party hats for her. That might be fun 😉 Or maybe some family photo booth props! What do you think? I’d love to hear your ideas in the comments …
