Yard Sale Tables with a Grain Sack Stripe

Can I tell you how much I love yard sale season? I LOVE IT.

Dan and I got up early on Saturday to trek to a little town about an hour away to go “yard sailing.” The entire town had sales going and it was super fun. We chatted with the locals, snagged some amazing finds and even stopped for delicious lunch before heading home. (I had seafood tacos and a chocolate milkshake. Combine that with filling my car with treasures for less than $40 and I was one happy lady.)

These tables were among our loot. For $1 apiece! I have been looking for basic, folding, tv tray style tables for a while. I like them because they can act as end tables, or as extra serving space when guests come over – but they fold up and tuck away in a corner when not in use. I’ve also been wanting to try some grain sack stripe details. Perfect opportunity!Folding Grain Sack Tables BEFORE

This makeover happened so quickly that I didn’t even bother taking process pictures! Essentially, I sanded them down very lightly. Gave them two solid coats of White Chalk Paint (Chalk White by The FAT Paint Company), and then taped off some basic stripes and added two coats of FAT Paint’s Can’t See Me Camo Green.

I was going to go with navy for the stripe, but I’m so glad I went green. It’s not a colour I often use – but this earthy tone brings just the right amount of seaside vintage to the tables.

Make sure when you tape off stripes like this that you use good quality painting tape and that you pull it off before your stripes dry completely.

Dan was mowing our lawn, but I managed  to rescue this small handful of Forget-Me-Nots before he mowed them over. I know they are technically weeds, but I still love them. Yard Sale table makeover with grain sack stripe

How to make over a yard sale tableYou might be wondering about the second table. It got the identical treatment. But I put it in the living room for the moment. Our tulips bloomed on Friday and with a mad heat wave on Saturday, they were already droopy! So I rescued them and plunked them into a cool cream and blue canister we got for $1 as well 🙂 Grain Sack Table Living Room Peek Living Room Sneak Peek with Grain Sack Table

By the time you’re reading this, they are probably already done and gone. I just couldn’t resist trying to save them for a little punch of summertime colour. And YES! This is sneak peek at the new-ness in our living room! I’m planning to share some more of it with you soon. I’m just finishing up a couple of fun projects for the space first 😉Shabby Chic TV table makeover

Anyway – not too shabby for $2 and two hours, eh? What about you? What have you picked up at yard sales or flea markets this year? Do you love them as much as I do? Should we start a Yard Sailers Anonymous club?

Maybe.
