Oh boy! Have I got a post for you! I spent the last two weeks rounding up ONE HUNDRED ways to bring fall into your home (and your wardrobe!) this year. I have listed the 10 Best Things about Transitioning to Fall… and each category has tons of inspirational options; from decor picks to a few fun fashions and traditions. I’ve never done a post this elaborate before, so I hope you like it and enjoy!
Real, faux, furry or metallic – pumpkins and gourds are one of my absolute FAVORITE ways to add a fall feel at home! I especially love these metallic pumpkins because they could reasonably take you all the way into the holiday season.
Here’s a gallery of my current FAVE pumpkins!
Chunky knit, striped, plaid or faux fur – adding a throw blanket to each room in the home is a fabulous way to up the ‘fall factor’ and be practical! I love wrapping myself up in a blanket as I sip my morning coffee, just as much as I love cuddling up with one in the cool evenings with a cup of tea and a movie. I’m basically obsessed with this octagon style knit throw from West Elm. I have a very similar one in our tv room and it’s the BEST!

OH. EM. GEE. I love baskets. Dan thinks I’m nuts because I keep buying them! But they add so much warmth and function, I can’t help it! I adore my gigantic hyacinth woven basket that sits on our landing by our linen cupboard. It’s absolutely perfect for catching the odds and sods that tend to end up in hallways – like hot water bottles, lost socks, cat toys. I just empty it and sort it once every couple of weeks. Baskets can be used for centre pieces, on kitchen counters to corral seasonal fruit and baked goods, in the tv room for remotes – the possibilities are endless and so cozy.
Baked Goods and Seasonal Fruit
I love me a summer-time fruit parfait. BUT, I LOVE me a pumpkin pie or an apple crisp. There’s something about fall desserts , isn’t there? We celebrate them, we look forward to them and, many of us, have fond memories attached to them. I love baking a pie and showcasing it on my pedestal cake and pie plate. It makes it all feel so much more special. I can’t even handle the gorgeousness of this wooden cake plate from K-Mart! What?!
Here are a bunch of Fall-esque items related to bakeware that celebrate and display baked goods!
Leather Boots & Bags
Beyond home decor and design, I also love easy fashion – don’t you? That’s why each season, I allow myself to purchase either a new bag or new shoes/boots. Boots are the PERFECT thing for fall! I’m currently in the market for some brown riding style boots. I can’t decide if I want cropped or tall boots though! I really love these brown leather heeled ankle boots. They are a definite contender! And BAGS! I just bought myself a new leather saddle bag. They last forever and go with everything and the soft leather is oh-so-fall 🙂
Here are some of my current faves for the season! (Including practical ones you can wear in all weather!)
There is a saying out there in design land: “Toss pillows are like stuffed animals for adults.” I couldn’t agree more! I LOVE to switch up the cushions on my couch seasonally. They are just the thing to add a pop of style and/or colour and can completely change the mood of a room. This fall, I’m especially loving chunky knit toss cushions and the grain sack look, which can definitely carry into the holidays.
Here are some of my favourite toss pillow picks!
Hot Lattes and Coffee
Anyone who knows me knows that I cannot start my day without two hot cups of black coffee. I know those Insta K-cup machines are all the rage, but I’m a purist at heart. I use either a French Press for special occasions (like when Dan makes homemade waffles on Sunday morning!) or for daily brew, I turn to my tried and true Cuisinart percolator. I have owned three of these machines in my life time and they really make the best cup. (Recall, I used to do an AM radio show, so I was up at 3 AM every day. Coffee was like gold haha.)
Here are some ways to cozy up over the fall and winter months with a good cuppa Jo 🙂
Gorgeous Wreaths and Foliage
I don’t feel the need to really explain this one 🙂 Nothing screams ‘changing seasons’ like a solid wreath or garland.
Here are my picks for splurge worthy fall (and into winter!) faux foliage.
Hot Toddies and Wine
So, I haven’t been able to indulge in a glass of wine or a hot toddy for some time now, but you can bet that this fall and winter, I will enjoy a glass or two! I find cozying up on the couch with a good book (see below!), warm socks and a wonderful glass of red wine to be just the perfect way to spend a fall evening. Cleverly displayed wine and whimsical stemware can brighten the experience even more! And they don’t have to cost a fortune, either.
Here are some suggestiongs to spruce up your ‘wine’ decor:
Ah! Last but not least! What is fall without a good book?! Whether you’re into fiction, cooking or decor, here are the books I have read (and read over and over!) that I recommend for the season 🙂
