Bright and Colourful Living Room Reveal {$100 Room Makeover Challenge Week 4}

It’s here! It’s here! The Big REVEAL of my Bright and Colourful Living Room! It was the room I chose to tackle for the $100 Room Makeover Challenge and I’m so pleased with the results!

In case you’re just popping in today (Hello, btw!), the whole basis of this challenge is to show how a room can be transformed with just $100… I think when it all adds up, I did my room for even less than that! Here’s the breakdown of how the makeover happened:

Week One – The Inspiration and the Objectives

Week Two – How I Shopped the House for Decor

Week Three – How I put together a Colourful Gallery Wall

Week Four – {this week!} The Reveal

Really quickly, let’s revisit this room before this makeover 😀

And here’s what it looks like now!

Let’s start with this little living room nook – it’s the one I dressed up in Week Two when I shopped the house. I took down the old circular mirror and replaced it with inexpensive baskets from the thrift store. I updated the love seat with a pop of colour using a new bright pink cushion cover. Guess what I learned? Fabric stores that host ‘learn to sew’ classes often have demo pillow covers for sale for super cheap! I filled out the nook with a black lacquer telephone table for added storage and a ghost chair for additional seating without being heavy.

The finishing touches are the black and white city photo art, the tall corner lamp and the peonies from my garden! I only seem to ever get two blooms – but when they arrive, I LOVE IT.

You’ll also notice that I recovered the ottoman in new fabric and I replaced the old vertical beige striped drapes with aqua and white horizontal stripe drapes. I also managed to get my wool chevron throw and my new DIY mosaic tile tray into this space as well!

The back wall by the fauxdenza we built packs the most design punch and is also where I splurged on that succulent painting. You’ll notice the memo board was my DIY Challenge project for July as well!

I basically rearranged the gallery wall using fewer, larger items and then dressed the fauxdenza using things I already had that offered some colour – the ceramic gnome, the collection of home design books, the distressed wooden candlesticks and the geometric lamps.

The last bit of additional seating comes in the form of the vintage cane-back chair that I madeover with grey and white faux bois material. I’ve had that chair forever and I still love the lines.

So I know you’re curious about the budget breakdown! Here it is!

  • Succulent Art Print – $50 at HomeSense
  • Burlap Memo Board – $10 on Burlap
  • Fabric for the Ottoman – $8
  • Baskets for the wall – $5.50
  • Pink Cushion Cover(s) – $12

TOTAL: $85.50!

I’m loving the happy vibe in this room now and that it really does feel like ‘us’. It’s cozy and casual, but still looks pulled together and somewhat deliberate.

I truly hope this series has inspired you to think about decorating as something that can be fun and easy to do and that doesn’t have to cost a lot of money!! This was such a good time and it brought me back to my roots of trying to figure out how to do more with less – and I just loved it.

  1. What a gorgeous room, I love the white painted wood wall and the baskets are a perfect touch. It reminds me of a Caribbean Beach house. This has been a fun challenge.
