Wow! We are half way through summer and I cannot believe it…today marks the start of my third trimester of pregnancy! I so appreciate all of the kind words and support everyone has given us along the way. It feels amazing to be in the home stretch 🙂
Speaking of which, Dan and I took a little mini stay-cation last week, so I thought I’d take the chance to give you a little bump-update, some project sneak peeks and basically an update on ‘life lately’ for us – oh and some snap shots of our gorgeous Nova Scotia beaches – because you all need to come here for a vacation! It’s too beautiful to miss <3
As you saw in Friday’s post – we have been rehabbing our back deck. Okay, truthfully, Dan has been doing most of the heavy lifting. I have been focused on getting rest and trying my best to feel good about myself. I had a health scare around the 22 week mark when my kidneys started to act up. I ended up bursting a kidney valve and being admitted to the hospital and was put on bed rest for more than a week. Since then, I’ve just been really cautious and careful about doing anything too intense outside or in the studio.
On Day One of our vacation, I just sat on the back deck enjoying the work in progress! I actually washed and dried my hair, painted my nails – I even read an entire magazine cover-to-cover! Luxury, I tell you! And yes, that is our new privacy wall. We have a tutorial coming up for that soon. It was way easier to build that it looks 😉 Can’t wait to share.
I’ve been toying with lots of bold colours and patterns outside and I’ve got to say, I’m in love! If you’re nervous about patterns and colour, try using them outside. I find they always translate well. This space is definitely still evolving – but I’m incredibly happy with the direction it’s going.
We still have a few more projects to do to our deck to get it where we want it to be, but we ended up giving ourselves a total DIY (and blog) break, settling in each night on the patio with drinks and munchies and our sweet pup.
By Day Two, we decided to take the bump to the beach. We hit up Walmart to grab some picnic supplies first. Okay – Dan went to the grocery section and I snuck to the ‘home’ and ‘seasonal’ section 😉 That’s when I found the perfect accent pillows for our new back deck (on clearance!) I love those unexpected finds, don’t you?
And, because I always buy myself one girlie treat every vacation, I bought myself an equally bold and floral head band. I love head bands. Is that weird? They are honestly one of my favorite accessories. Perfect for beach days, wavy hair, straight hair, DIY-doing, blogging… everything. (My other favorite one is a black and white polka dot one I’ve had for years…)
And here we are finally heading to the beach. Dan hasn’t noticed my new hair-do yet 😛
We found an awesome spot to perch at Martinique Beach. It’s about 45 minutes outside of the city and it is nothing short of stunning.
Sooner than later, we know our lives will be incredibly hectic, beach days will be less about lounging and eating and more about sand castles and skipping stones. That’s okay. But boy, were we glad to have these few days….Canadian summers are so short, and are just too beautiful to pass up.
For our final day of Staycation, we head down to the Annapolis Valley to visit with family for a day. On our way, we stopped at Hennigar’s Farm in Wolfville. They have baby bunnies! Or I guess a bunny is a baby rabbit? I dunno. They were ADORABLE.
We toured the grounds for a little bit. It was sweltering hot that day, which wasn’t great for me and the great belly I now have. But we still managed to snap a few shots.
I also picked up a new jade plant and potted it in a aqua ceramic pot my Mother-in-Law gave me. It will look perfect in my new office space. Let’s hope I can keep this one from shrivelling up.
As for my health and the baby, everything seems to be totally fine and on track. I’ve been craving milkshakes and oranges and I seem to cry at basically everything I see on Youtube these days. Don’t forget you can keep up with more of my pregnancy journey over at Yummy Mummy Club if you’re interested 🙂
We’re back to the DIYs later this week. You guys! I finished our nursery change table and diapering station and I’m OVERJOYED with how well it turned out. I’ll be sharing that project and some tips I’ve picked up already in a couple days 🙂
