Inside: Hang a DIY Pegboard Organizer in your craft room to save space; plus decorate it with a homemade stencil! Done in 30 minutes or less.
It’s my general sense that no matter how big or small your craft room is, you never really have enough space, right? I have been spending a lot of time in our basement lately – plotting and planning our major renovation. It’s been six years since I started to use that space for my DIYs and crafting and it’s been through some significant changes.
But one thing hasn’t changed – I’m going to have a pegboard, no matter what. Pegboards are a space saving dream when it comes to organizing a room. They hang on the wall, you can customize them with shelving, you can make them out of plywood so they are heavy duty, you can hang tools from a pegboard and so much more. They are VERSATILE y’all.
Today, I’m going back to basics with this simple project for a DIY Pegboard Organizer. This will get you started if you have never had a pegboard before. Here I’ll explain in simple terms how to hang the pegboard on the wall (hint: you can just screw it in or the pegs won’t work), how to decorate it with found items and then how to enjoy it LOL
If you’re reading this post and you’ve been a reader for a long time, you’re probably wondering where this space is. Well, it’s the one being renovated right now – you can see more about our current phase with our contractor here. We’ve also done significant work to declutter this craft space and our tool area since then too. This simple pegboard organization project is perfect for a craft room or sewing room. It can also be adapted for tools in a workshop. Bonus tutorial for how to stencil it with a scallop pattern.

You can use the holes in the pegboard as a vague guide. Once you get started on one row, it's easy. You just offset the next one until you've done the entire pegboard. Another option would be to paint the scallops for even more colour and pattern!
Meantime, another awesome wall hanging, space saver is to turn old drawers into wall shelves. They don’t hold much, but they might be just the thing you need to keep supplies off a desk surface. You can see how to turn Drawers into Wall Shelves here.
I’ve also added pegboard to furniture like this DIY Craft Cart I have in my tool studio.
