DIY Modern Snowflake Christmas Pillow Covers | HOLIDAY CRAFT

Home decor

Inside: Create your own Christmas pillows with this simple DIY using a red throw pillow cover and some basic yarn!

Christmas throw pillows can be really expensive and they often take up so much room in the cupboard. For something that you only have out for a few weeks of the year, it’s nice to have a way to customize your own throw pillows and then not feel guilty about donating them at the end of the season right?

(PS. I have some tips on how to declutter your holiday decor!)

Today, I’m sharing the sweetest little DIY for how to use red throw pillow covers (which you can buy at the craft store or simply make yourself) and some basic yarn to make snowflake pillows!! They are a modern twist on the traditional snowflake and I love the result.

Simple DIY Christmas pillow covers that are a modern snowflake pattern.

Materials

  • red pillow cover (18x18)
  • white yarn
  • large sewing needle
  • measuring tape (optional)

Instructions

  1. Measure your pillow case and mark where you want to put your snowflake. Mine are about an inch apart and offset on every row. But you really can do this randomly.
  2. Thread the yarn in to the pillow cover and pull it right through leaving about 1/16" for the stitch.
  3. Tie off the yarn a couple times to tighten and secure it and then trim the ends.

See! I told you these holiday pillows were easy to make! I think these would be an amazing craft to do with your kids over the break. Imagine doing them in all different colours? Love.

I’m pretty obsessed with DIY Holiday decor if you can’t tell. These pillows will go amazing with a DIY tree stand cover and my little Hygge House Countdown calendar.

For the white pillow, it’s a bolster style and I literally just wrapped them with red pom poms and then tied it at the back. I use these white bolsters all year, so I wanted the Christmas decoration to be temporary.

Another easy one is my DIY Christmas planters with felt – which you could swap the green for red and it would all be one amazing colour story.

I’m all about keeping things in one colour family and then just going to town on the whimsy and fun.  If you want to see more Home Decor Ideas for the Holidays, I have an entire post on that here!
