So I’ve been on a bit of a ‘double kick’ lately. First, I’m cleaning like crazy. Secondly, I’m trying to spend as little money as possible. So when I found myself madly cleaning out my studio drawers and cupboards, I decided to up cycle a few of the items I’d found instead of throwing them out. Then Dan and I hit up a couple of yard sales and thrift stores and I realized I had the beginnings of my new office nook!
Without further ado, here’s how to outfit your home office with thrift store finds!
Here are the things I assembled in a pile:
- A scrap piece of plywood
- A leftover piece of cork from another project
- A thrifted napkin holder
- A clipboard that had fallen behind my bookshelf (don’t judge)
- A ceramic horse head I bought at the thrift store for $3 (not seen in the photo because… ummm…I forgot it…whoops!)
Oh! And we’re on a hop this week with 18 other blogs…so make sure you check out the list at the end of this post!
I know this might seem out to lunch, but in the background here Chez DIY Passion, I’m working on the nursery, the back deck and a mini-office nook makeover. I lost my office when we had to swap bedrooms to make space for the nursery upstairs. So the office space is actually a bit of a priority. I’ll write more on that later.
Here are the crafty supplies I gathered!
- Hot glue
- Gold Adhesive Vinyl
- Gold Paint by Modern Masters
- Metallic Thumb Tacks
- Acrylic Paint
- White Chalk Paint
- Foam Brushes
- Silhouette Cameo
First up, I painted everything except the cork board using whites and a soft turquoise-aqua tone (here is the exact colour paint I used). Already better and more cohesive, don’t you think?
The cork board was easy. Using hot glue, I just stuck it right onto my painted plywood. Then labels! Using my Silhouette Cameo, I cut out three phrases from my Gold Adhesive Vinyl – Pin It, Clip It, File It and stuck them onto each of my three new office supplies!
Easy as pie. And done in less than an afternoon 🙂
I honestly think when it comes to updating thrifted and found items, keeping the colour scheme simple and clean is the key.
I’m showing you all these lovelies in my studio now, but they will migrate upstairs to my office nook. All in good time! All I will say at this point is the space is coming together really well and I’ll share it with you soon!
Do you love office supplies as much as I do? Here are some of the supplies that inspired my office nook.
