Wow – it’s been a hot minute. Or shall we say a little over a week π As I write this post, I’m in Toronto, sitting at the kitchen island in my parents’ house. I’ve been here since last weekend and it’s the longest I’ve ever been away from LB in her sweet little life. She and Dan will fly in tonight to meet me and I cannot wait. I am so full and grateful for this time though. I am moving into territory that is new and exhilarating and I’m excited to tell you all about it. All in good time, I promise π
All that said, my Mamma heart seems to be dealing with missing my family by thinking about all the fun we’ll have pulling our family room together over the course of the next couple of months. I wrote a post a couple weeks ago sort of explaining where my head was at in terms of the larger elements – furniture, rug, storage etc. But I have to be honest with you – the design is still very much up in the air.
One thing we DO know is that we are well on our way to a safer and warmer floor. We spent last weekend ripping up the old boards and disposing of them. I did a full Vlog on the demolition, which you can see below!
It all started with us having to clear the room. No easy feat with a toddler in tow, let me tell you! We kinda did the least amount of work possible and left the larger items in the room like the couch and chair and just swung them around as we demo’d.
This floor was a b***h to start pulling up, but once we got into a groove and a flow, it actually came up quite easily. I was SO GROSSED out by all the dust and debris that was sitting on the styrofoam insulation. Legit disgusting. We will be replacing the subfloor with fully insulated subfloor panels, which will be 100% cleaner and healthier, not to mention much more efficient than 30-year old styrofoam.
As of this moment in time, the floor is still gone. I can’t wait to at least get the subfloor back in because not having a playroom was super hard last week when LB was kept home from daycare for having a cough and cold. This room is the only room in the house where we can contain her while she plays… so last week was kinda nuts. I spent more time chasing her off the stairs, around the main floor than I can count and I think I must have gotten three weeks worth of steps in LOL. It’ll be nice to have a safe floor in the playroom, even if we don’t have furniture to go on top of it.
Speaking of furniture, this rug is a definite because I ordered it!! After six months of having it sit in my shopping cart, it’s now on its way to my hot little hands and I’m jubilant. I LOVE that it’s so lively and colourful and soft and plush… I’ve also ordered a small round coffee table which I’m hoping is going to work. Jury is still in deliberations on the whole couch situation, as well as the storage solutions for the big play wall. Man, I’m so waffley on this design – I should just open a Waffle house… yummmmmm… waffles.
Oh! BUT – I did make a total impulse purchase for that wall… it’s a whale. A whale made of paper. And I was at the One of a Kind Show in Toronto with Jennifer and it just miraculously breached and smiled and jumped into my shopping bag. π You can see all this company’s creations here. SO. EFFIN. CAYOOT.
So ya – I know there’ll be a floor, a rug, a maybe table, and a whale. … LOL
