How to Make Felt Flower Magnets

NurseryHome decor

Inside: The cutest craft tutorial for making felt flower magnets; great for the kids and easy to customize; uses basic craft supplies and a wooden dowel.

Don’t you love it when inspiration strikes and it actually works out?! Ya, I know. Me too 🙂 Well, today I’m sharing with you a simple tutorial for how to make felt flower magnets. I was inspired by some giant blooms that popped up in my yard over the last week. I’m also (eternally) cleaning out my craft studio and trying to use what I have on hand and this project fit the bill perfectly.

Step one is to cut your dowel down to approximately 1.5″. It doesn’t have to be perfect or exact. Then sand it using your sanding block.

Next cut out your ‘petals’ from your coloured felt. They should be large enough so that your dowel is totally surrounded by felt when placed at the tip.

Cut five petals for each flower and then lay them out to form your actual flower with the dowel placed in the centre. Play with the arrangement and make note of the order of your petals -from the one closest to the top and down. Then use your hot glue to fix them in place, making sure they are glued on the sides a bit to make the petal shape.

Flip your fully formed flower over and use a strip of magnet and some hot glue on the back!

Let this dry for a few minutes and then hang them up on your fridge 🙂

That’s it! I hope you liked this super simple craft tutorial. If you make them, send me a message! I’d love to see 🙂

If you are still into the flower thing I have a couple other posts that use a similar method to achieve different results. One of my favourite wood+flower projects is my DIY Wood Shim Wreath.

And then of course, I’m basically obsessed with my DIY Giant Flower Wall!
